Switchfoot

One of Rock and Christian Music’s most popular bands is set to perform at the 2007 Tulsa State Fair, presented by Ford, on Friday, October 5th.

Having crossed successfully from the Christian genre to Rock, Switchfoot has proved itself popular.  The soulful lyrics in their songs are easily relatable to their audiences.  As a result, the band's fan base transcends different beliefs and lifestyles.  This has caused some, such as Spin writer Andrew Beaujon, to take the view that "their lyrics often have two different meanings, one meaning for a Christian audience and one meaning for the rest of us. They try to relate to two different groups of people at once".

More than forty (40) of their songs have been featured in movies and television shows.  They have been honored along the way by winning several ASCAP awards, many Dove awards and being nominated for a Grammy award.

Switchfoot's roots can be traced back to the beaches of San Diego in the mid-‘90s, when the band connected as surfers (though keyboardist Fontamillas, who joined in September of 2000). Though they competed in national surf championships on weekends and earned product endorsements from equipment companies, the real bond came from a common love of music. They decided to form a band, chose the name Switchfoot (a surfing term), put themselves through months of sweaty garage band workouts, and then hit the road.

After just 20 gigs, they signed with re:Think records and released Legend of Chin in 1997. They've averaged 150 shows a year ever since, while selling more than 400,000 copies of their first three albums (Legend of Chin, New Way to Be Human and Learning to Breathe) combined. Shortly after recording The Beautiful Letdown, Switchfoot signed with Columbia. The album has since become the band's fastest-selling record to date. Since signing with Columbia, Switchfoot has released several more albums, Nothing Is Sound in 2005 and Oh! Gravity in 2006 to great critical acclaim.  Their most notable songs include “Meant to Live,” “Stars,” “This Is Your Life,” and “Only Hope,” just to name a few.

Switchfoot will be performing on the Oklahoma Stage Friday, October 5 beginning at 8pm.  The concert is free to the public with a paid gate admission.
