Tony Toni Tone

Tony!
Toni! Toné crashed out of their Oakland
neighborhood in 1988 with their Gold debut album Who? which
spawned the hit "Little Walter". In 1990,
to both critical and popular acclaim, their second
album The Revival garnered four # 1 Billboard
hits including "Feels Good," "Whatever
You Want," "The Blues" and "It
Never Rains (In Southern California)" and
went Platinum. The success of The Revival and
subsequent headlining tour was realized during
various awards shows: 1991 NAACP Image Award for "Vocal
Group Of The Year", 1991 American Music Award
for "Favorite R&B/Soul Group" and
ASCAP Award for "Feels Good". They also
contributed “Me & You” to the hit
soundtrack for the John Singleton film Boyz
in the Hood.
Their
third album, Sons Of Soul, released in
1993, was recorded mostly in Trinidad and spawned
one of their most popular ballads and Grammy-nominated
smash, "Anniversary", as well as "If
I Had No Loot", "(Lay Your Head On My)
Pillow" and "Slow Wine", which all
reached high on the Billboard Charts making the
album go double Platinum. 1993 was their most prolific
year with several previously unreleased tracks
surfacing on soundtracks like House Party II,
Jason's Lyric, The Mask, Panther and Poetic
Justice.
After
touring the world and a hiatus to work on outside
projects, Tony! Toni! Toné regrouped in
its founding member D’Wayne Wiggins’ Oakland,
CA studio and created the outstanding 1997 album House
of Music. The album was named for the mom
and pop music store where they bought their records
and black velvet posters while growing up. The
first single was "Let's Get Down", which
featured popular West coast rapper DJ Quik. MTV
aired the video in heavy rotation, introducing
them to an even younger audience of hip-hop aficionados.
This album also went Platinum.
Tony! Toni! Toné featured
on the title track of Alicia Keys’ 2004 platinum-selling
album, “Diary”. In 2006, D’Wayne
Wiggins and Timothy Christian Riley along with
their cousin, Amar Khalil (performing lead vocals)
toured the United States performing more than 75
often sold-out concerts. Tony! Toni! Toné’s
much anticipated sixth album due to be released
in 2010. The album features collaborations with
Rhymefest, Beyonce Knowles, Keyshia Cole, and Slick
Rick with the Grass Roots Production Team weighing
in on this sure-to-go platinum effort.
