Take-In: September 14, 2013
The Tulsa State Fair is partnering with nationwide organization, “Quilts for Kids, Inc.” to combine competition and giving back. Compete with your brand new “specially made with love” quilts and then we will donate them to the Quilts for Kids organization at the end of the 2013 Tulsa State Fair.
Transforming discontinued, unwanted and other fabrics into patchwork quilts that comfort children with life-threatening illnesses and children of abuse.
Division 1058
Class 1: Boy’s theme
Class 2: Girl’s theme
Class 3: Neutral
Quilts must be delivered to Central Park Hall at Expo Square, Saturday, September 14, 2013.
Size: Approximately 38” x 45” lap quilts. Currently, they have a great need for quilts for teenage boys. Remember, they are “comfort” quilts. If they are too large, we cannot ship them.
Pattern: You can use a pattern of your choosing or download one from quiltsforkids.org. Applique quilts are accepted as long as they are done by machine (satin-stitch, tight zig-zag, or blanket stitch).
Fabrics: 100% cotton (regular or flannel). Please do not use or send polar fleece. The kids love brightly colored, kid friendly fabrics and appreciate color-coordinated quilts.
Batting: 1/8” - 1/4” LOW LOFT batting - can be polyester, cotton or a blend as long as it is a low loft batting.
Assembling the Quilt: All quilts must be machine pieced and machine quilted (please do not use mono-filament thread). The quilts require a good amount of machine quilting since they go through a washer and dryer cycle daily. Don’t forget to quilt in the borders!
Please do not hand tie the quilts. Hand tied quilts can be a potential choking hazard and do not hold up to the daily washings they go through.
Quilts not following the above guidelines will NOT be accepted
