Picking & Fiddling Judges

Brad Hawkins

Brad Hawkins has been involved in fiddling for over 28 years. He has won contests in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri and Texas, and won the intermediate division at the World Series of Fiddling. He is currently instructing both fiddle and guitar students. Brad has also organized several contests in Oklahoma. When not fiddling, he is a science teacher and a church pastor. Brad’s favorite fiddle influences are Terry Morris, Ricky Turpin, Wes Wesmoreland and Rudi Booher. Brad is thankful to the Lord Jesus Christ for giving him the gift of music and the joy that it brings to the heart of both the musician and the listener alike.

Shelby Eicher

Shelby grew up in Northern Ohio playing square dances with his mom, dad and grandmother. The band consisted of his grandmother and the Fulton County Sand Shifters. As a member of Roy Clark’s band for 15 years, Shelby recorded five albums with Roy and appeared numerous times on The Tonight Show and Hee Haw. Currently he performs 20 times per month and teaches fiddle, mandolin and guitar to 30 students.

Wayne Head

Wayne Head is a 4th generation fiddler. He also plays rhythm guitar and mandolin and always looks forward to attending jam sessions. A few of Wayne’s accomplishments include: Tulsa, OK - Oklahoma State Fiddling Championships, Senior Division: 1st Place: 2011 - 2014 and 2016. Branson, MO - Mid America Fiddlers Championships, Senior Division: 1st Place: 2013 & 2014. Grove, OK - Grand Lake National Fiddle Contest, Senior Division: 1st Place: 2013 & 2016. Mountain View, AR - Arkansas State Fiddle Championships, Senior Division: 1st place: Contemporary 2015. Greenville, TX - Bob Wills Fiddle Festival and Contest, Senior Division: 1st place: 2016. Weiser, ID - National Oldtime Fiddlers Contest, Senior Division: 4th place: 2016. Wayne has judged several times at the Oklahoma State Picking and Fiddling Championships, the Grand Lake National Fiddle Contest in Grove and at the Bowie, TX Fiddling Contest. Wayne and his wife Donna live in Hugo, OK. They have 2 children and 3 grandchildren.
